The High School Pitcher Development Roadmap: Freshman To College Commit

A year-by-year blueprint for every high school pitcher who wants to play at the next level.

You Have Four Years. Most Pitchers Waste Three.

College recruiting is faster than ever. Here is what to do each year.

Freshman Year

  • Build your base: strength training, mobility, throwing program
  • Learn your delivery on video
  • Compete on JV — innings matter more than wins

Sophomore Year

  • Push velocity to 80+ mph
  • Develop a true second pitch
  • Start showcasing at small camps

Junior Year

  • This is the recruiting year
  • Target 85+ mph, command, and a real breaking ball
  • Showcase strategically — quality over quantity
  • Email coaches with film and metrics

Senior Year

  • Polish, perform, stay healthy
  • Use the season to back up your commitment
  • Mentor the freshmen — leadership matters

What Coaches Actually Look For

Velocity, command, athleticism, makeup. In that order, and all four are required.

The pitchers who get recruited started early and stayed consistent. There is no shortcut.
